Why walking is still serious training
Walking is accessible, low cost and adaptable. A brisk pace can improve cardiovascular fitness while creating less fatigue than many high-intensity sessions.
Increase duration first, then add hills, faster intervals or a light pack if appropriate. Short walks after meals are also an easy way to add movement to a desk-based day.
The best activity is not always the hardest one. A repeatable walking habit can support health, recovery and preparation for more demanding goals.
