How to progress without training to failure
Training to failure can be useful in selected situations, but it is not required for every set. Stopping with one to three good repetitions available often provides an effective stimulus with less fatigue.
Track load, repetitions and technique. Progress when the same weight feels more controlled across the planned range, rather than chasing exhaustion as proof of a good workout.
Sustainable progress comes from months of quality practice. Save maximal effort for appropriate tests or carefully chosen final sets.
